The book I have chosen to review is the book, The Hate You Give. There is also a movie and an audio book. The story is about police brutality, racism, and drug use. The main conflict is when Starr Carter’s best friend gets shot after a racist cop finds them alone driving on the street. When this happened Starr felt like everything was taken from her. She stopped going to school. She stopped coming outside. The only reason she went out was because of his funeral. Everyone was worried about her. 

One day she decided to defend herself. This was the day when she decided everything needed to change. She got up, went outside, and took a jog around the neighborhood. She felt like everything had changed since his death. So she wanted that to change. She started a petition to push back the officers and march the streets. To walk down and show the police that they weren’t going to stop until justice was fulfilled.

The reason I chose the book was because the same thing happened with George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. People decided that they weren’t going to sit around quietly while this happened. They were going to take a stand against the racism, police brutality and the injustice in the courts. 

So if you’re not into this kind of stuff you shouldn’t see the movie. If you want to get mad and fired up or if you want to show your kids what’s happening around the world and what to prepare for, you should show them this movie.
