Zerina Akers was born and raised in Landover, Maryland. She went to The Art Institute of Philadelphia. She was a stylist for Beyoncé yet expanded her business more after she received  an Emmy award for her costume design Black Is King that she designed for Beyoncé. She then later found Black Owned Everything.

Akers had always wanted to influence people throughout her time in high school. As she said, “I think it’s a way to really teach a lot of young fashionistas coming up.” She chased her dreams and never gave up. She went from a small town girl learning to be a stylist then attending an art college to an Emmy winner. Since she never gave up, she kept pushing forward even though she felt she was going nowhere. She inspired a lot of people to keep going and never give up on what you are most passionate about.
