It’s the month where you just eat and enjoy banana pudding. Banana Pudding Lover’s Month was created back in 2011 by the Rodgers Family because they wanted to share their love for banana pudding with the public and to create new memories of enjoying banana pudding this month. It was created in Chesapeake, Virginia, and it became a whole entire month dedicated to it. They hold festivals dedicated to it every year, it’s made with many different toppings, and it is loved all around the world!
Banana Pudding Lovers Month doesn’t have rules at all. It’s very straightforward and simple, just eat any kind of banana pudding. People love expressing how banana pudding tastes. You can put multiple toppings, customize it how you see fit, and you can have a fun time adding what you’d like onto banana pudding, which adds to the banana pudding eating experience. Article websites like National Today said that banana pudding is “Creamy, moist, sweet and sometimes crunchy, a traditional banana pudding dish — one that includes Nilla Wafers and whipped cream or meringue — can satisfy in many ways”, and people over at NonStopCelebrations also said “You must, of course, eat banana pudding!”.
Banana pudding has its history, and lots of it is interesting. Back in the late 1800s, banana pudding became a popular U.S. dish, and it quickly spread around the world because of international trade networks. Specifically in 1888, a company called Good Housekeeping published its first banana pudding recipe, which was served over sponge cake. Later down the line in 1903, a woman named Mary Harris Fraizer made a banana pudding recipe in her southern cookbook named “The Kentucky Recipe Book”. Furthermore in the 1940s, a banana pudding recipe was printed by Nabisco, which is a food company, on their Nilla Wafers box. Speeding all the way to 2010, the first National Banana Pudding Festival event was in Centerville, Tennessee, which I mentioned earlier was a two-day yearly event on the first weekend in October.
All in all, Banana Pudding Lovers Month is a fun excuse to eat banana pudding everyday, and it’s a lighthearted month that is so simple and straightforward—just eat banana pudding. Everyone should eat Banana Pudding, and if you’ve never tried it, this is your time now to do so. It’s loved all around the world, and its history is surprisingly fascinating.
