The audience held their breath as Alice curiously followed the white rabbit down the rabbit hole kicking off an unforgettable evening of magical theater. On November 15 and 16, the MRHS auditorium transformed into a whimsical wonderland of imagination as students performed their rendition of Alice in Wonderland a tale loved by generations. “Lewis Carrol’s beloved story follows Alice as she journeys through a fantastical land filled with quirky characters and valuable life lessons about curiosity, bravery, and self discovery.”
The school play selected Alice in Wonderland for its charm, humor, and ability to showcase a wide range of student talents. With its larger than life characters and vibrant senses the play offered an opportunity for creativity to shine both on and off the stage. Casting Alice in Wonderland was an exciting challenge.
The roles of Alice, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts required students to balance humor, drama, and an air of whimsy. After weeks of auditions, the cast was finalized, with each student bringing their unique flair to the characters. The journey from script to stage was no small feat. Rehearsals took place after school and it was not everyday, with the cast dedicating countless hours to perfect their lines movements and timing.
“It was as exhausting but so rewarding said Jordan Bye, who played the Mad Hatter. Backstage, the crew worked tirelessly to create a world straight out of Wonderland. Sets were painted in bold bright colors, and costumes reflected the eccentricity of the characters.
From Alice’s iconic blue dress to the Queens grand red gown, every detail was carefully crafted to bring the story to life. “As part of the crew, I saw how much effort went into every scene” said hadidi, who helped with lighting and props. It felt amazing to see everything come together on opening night. Parents, teachers, and students a like were enchanted by the performance. The students were incredible” said Miss Russo. You could see how much heard work they put into it. As the curtain closed on our journey through Wonderland, one thing was clear our MRHS community had a great experience and one thing we will remember for years to come.
