A multicultural fair is an event that celebrates the diversity of cultures within a community. It often features presentations, food, music, and other activities that showcase different traditions and customs. This year, I had the opportunity to participate in it as a performance for Mexico.
At the beginning of this journey, I felt nervous, scared, and did not want to join due to stage fright. Our preparation began when we had our team, but despite missing people, we still practiced. Our practice started around December or January. We practiced regularly, it was often every day of the week after school for about 30 minutes. During practice, I learned how to dance hupango, not be shy, and just let my body go with the beat. There were moments when I struggled with some steps of our dance routine, but I also enjoyed my time, and I was not the only one messing up, and the laughs we all had.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the nervousness when we had to dance so far to Mrs.Orsita and everybody else. To overcome this, I just imagined that nobody was there and was just dancing by myself in my room and following the music. I received a lot of support from my friends and family, and they were all excited to see the final dance. As the fair got closer, I started to feel confident because we got the dance, but also nervous because it was my first time dancing in front of a lot of people.
On the morning of the event, I woke up feeling excited but also nervous, and had in mind not to mess up. Behind the scenes, everyone was feeling nervous, I had no smile on my face of how nervous I was. When it was time for our performance, I was so nervous when I got onto the dance floor, but once I was halfway through the dance, my nerves went away because everyone was cheering on. Hearing the audience’s reaction made me feel happy and proud because they all enjoyed our dance.
Looking back on this experience, I’ve learned that at first you might enjoy or like but in the end it’s all laughs and fun. This journey taught me the importance of teamwork and communication. My favorite moment from the fair was when I performed, and my family and friends saw it, and they were all proud of me. If I get the chance to do this again, I would love to do it.Â
