Nursing is not for everyone. Some people don’t like to see blood, some faint, some even have a panic attack. But, in my opinion, nursing is the best career to have. I say this because becoming a nurse means you get to help people. You can wake up one morning and save someone’s life. But there are a lot of ups and downs with nursing. I will admit it’s not all cupcakes and rainbows, but it’s not all rain and mud either.
Before we get into the fun parts of being a nurse, I want to talk to you about all of the requirements and hard work you have to go through to become one. To become a registered nurse, you would have to go through 2-4 years of college. Two is the minimum, but it does not guarantee a job. Four years is the maximum, and I will say it can get you a job quicker and better pay. It takes a lot of hard and dedicated work, but in the end, it pays off.
Now, the benefits of being a nurse are a fulfilling career path, job security, flexibility, and opportunities for growth and specialization. The good thing about becoming a nurse is that no matter how many years pass, there will always be a job for it. This is because, unfortunately, something bad happens every second of the day. A robot can not replace the emotions and the accuracy of a real nurse. Being a nurse can be flexible because depending on your home life can depend on how many hours you get. For example, if you are to have a baby, there is a maternity leave. Even after that, they can cut your hours so that you can accommodate your child.
The disadvantages of being a nurse are long hours, emotional strain, physical demands, and exposure to difficult situations and illnesses. When being a nurse, if you do not have any other priorities, you will be getting long hours. The average nurse works 36-40 hours per week. It gets tough having to be on your feet all day long and lose sleep. Emotionally, you will start to stress and get a lot of mood swings because it is a lot to deal with. When being a nurse, there are a lot of difficult situations that you will be in. In this scenario, you have to stay calm and ask your superior for advice on what to do. DO NOT DO THINGS WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT TO DO. This will come back and bite you if you do, because nursing is serious, it risks your life and your patients.
In conclusion, nursing is a tough career. But, in my opinion, the best. As listed, there are a lot of things that you have to worry about and remember to be able to be a nurse. But, in the end, all of these things are worth it. This will be because you would have helped to save a life, whether it was through clinicals or surgeries. But being a nurse can change lives, not just theirs but yours too.
