Role models are often overlooked or don’t receive the recognition they deserve. Role models are important because they provide people with someone to look up to or set examples that should be followed. One important Role model that should be recognized for Hispanic Heritage month is Beverly Gonzalez. She was born and raised in Jersey City and then moved to Puerto Rico at 7 years old. She lived in Puerto Rico for a few years, then moved back to Jersey City. At 16 years old, her mom died, and her dad wasn’t in her life from a young age, so she had to figure out life on her own. She had a rough childhood, but it shaped her into the person she is today.
One of Beverly’s greatest strengths is giving advice and helping others. She likes to listen to others, and whenever they need advice, she’s right there. Say you are having trouble with friends and you just need some advice or words of encouragement, she always knows what to say. One of her biggest goals is to make sure that her kids have all the opportunities that she never had growing up. She had to raise 5 kids all by herself, and she knew that she needed to give them the best life she possibly could.Â
She has made a huge impact on mine and many others’ lives. A few ways she has made an impact on people’s lives are that she shows people how to never give up. She is big on keeping trying until you cannot anymore. She has always shown people how to beÂ
hardworking. She showed people that even though you are in a tough place in your life, you can make it out. Beverly sets a great example for her kids to follow in her footsteps.Â
Beverly has shown me what it truly means to be grateful for everything because you never know when it will be gone. I have also learned from her to never judge a book by its cover because you never know what someone is truly going through. Every lesson she has taught me, I will forever carry throughout the rest of my life. This is why Beverly Gonzalez should be recognized as a role model.Â
