Dear Big Brothers,
I wanted to express my gratitude for all older brothers, but especially older girl brothers. Older brothers are always there to protect you and your feelings, whether that’s going through your first heartbreak or scraping your knee, you know you’ll have someone to be there for you, waiting to comfort you and give you a good laugh.
Having an older brother means tough love; they won’t coddle you or baby you, but they will always be there to tell you how it really is while having your best interest at heart. Big brothers give you a look into how boys think, and that can make you more understanding and less oblivious when it comes to understanding guy friends or boyfriends. You can go to your big brother and trust that he will steer you in the right direction and will give you great advice. Your big brother will be the one you can lean on and the “super hero” figure that a girl would look for.
As an example, my brother has always been there for me since I was younger. I always looked up to him, and I always wanted to hang out with him and be with him, but because we have a pretty big age gap, he never really wanted to hang out with his annoying younger sister, but as I got older (and less annoying) we started hanging out more and we made a brother sister pact to never tell our mom about our secrets and we starting being a lot more open. My brother and I like to cook together or share food sometimes. We go to the mall, and we bond over liking the same music and movies, and superheroes. It’s like I have my own best friend at home who I know will always have my best interest at heart, who I can laugh with all the time.
So this is a thank you to all the big brothers who take care of their little sisters, no matter how annoying we get or even if you think we are trying to copy everything you do, just know we are grateful to our at-home superhero. An even bigger thank you to my own Big brother, my super hero, my at-home Spider-Man.
Best,
Isabella
