“Waves”(2019) is a film about a 17 year old boy named Tyler. It dives into his love life, school life, and home life. His father wants him to focus his career on wrestling. Putting that type of pressure on his son makes him angry and upset. He is trying to be a good kid but it doesn’t work out with all these expectations from everyone.
Tyler’s love life is falling apart because of his issues. His girlfriend gets pregnant, but yet he wants her to abort it. They argue that she doesn’t want to, basically, the normal stuff you would expect if one parent doesn’t wish to have the child right? No, but you’ll have to see the film to find out why.
This movie is relatable yet heartbreaking. I love how they show different chapters in the siblings’ lives. For example, we don’t see much of Tyler’s sister’s part, but when we do, you can see she doesn’t get much attention from either parent. The only reason why Tyler gets all the attention is because he is in sports. His sister on the other hand is kind of in her own little world. It doesn’t show much but, when it does, it shows us how sweet and caring she really is towards others. She reminds me of herself because you might not see much but, when you do, I truly care for others.
This movie gives us anger, love, kindness and so much more. You can expect so much out of this movie. It might even have you in tears. This movie shows us that you can’t let stuff get in the way. You can’t let anger and your pride get ahead of you.
