A holiday scam is when someone lies or pretends to be helpful so they can steal your identity, money, or information. It’s important to know what these scams look like so you don’t fall for a fake deal. 

One common scam is fake shopping deals. At Christmas, people want to buy gifts for family and friends, so scammers make fake websites that look real. You might see a deal for a game, shoes, or a toy that is way cheaper than normal. But when you pay, the item never comes. Sometimes they even take your card number and try to buy other stuff with it. 

Another scam is fake charity messages. During Christmas, a lot of people donate to help others, and scammers know this. They pretend to be a real charity and ask you for money. They may send emails or texts that look real, but their money goes to them instead of to people who need help.  There are also package scams. You may get a text saying your package is late or needs a fee. It looks like it’s from a real company, but the link takes you to a fake site that steals your info. 

To stay safe, always double-check websites before buying anything. Don’t click links from random texts or emails. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. And when you want to give to a charity, make sure it’s the real one by looking it up yourself and not going off a text message.
