Use Your Summer Wisely

Are you having trouble figuring out what to do with this summer? I have an idea!

Summer is the best time for upcoming juniors or seniors to start thinking about where they want to go to college. It can provide time to mentally and physically prepare for the upcoming school year. Many kids find it difficult to focus on school during the summer but it’s the best time because you have so much freedom and time on your hands.

Growing up and finally realizing that it’s soon time for you to make the biggest decision of your life, what will I do after high school, can be a daunting task. Summer should be the time where you are thinking deeply about what you want to do with your life after high school because your education shouldn’t stop, it should only continue to grow. Many students think they have all the time in the world to make decisions about their futures and college, but the best time for you to figure out what you want to do and prepare yourself is the summer before junior or senior year.

The summer is also the best time to study for SATs and ACTs because you have uninterrupted time. Standardized test prep classes take dedication which many students can’t spare during the school year. With the multiple distractions of schoolwork and extracurriculars, students perform better when allowed to concentrate on one course at a time may thrive in summer sessions.

Studies show that college readiness is a marker for how successful you may be and how well you will integrate into the experience of college. A summer experience can also be a way to learn new skills and to help you realize what your strengths and weaknesses are. College readiness encompasses all aspects of your academic preparation, including the basic skills of note-taking, reading texts, studying for exams, and writing essays and research papers.

I think students who are interested in going to college should be studying over their summer break going on into their upcoming senior year in high school. This would make a major change because students all around will be more prepared for college. Preparing yourself for college isn’t an easy task because it’s a new experience, but with the right attitude, motivation, and preparation, it can be the most rewarding experience in your life!
